Have more people like you more

Rapport is that state where you connect, know, and trust somebody.  You’ve probably had times when you’ve clicked with people, you’ve instantly hit it off and you get on, yes?  You’ve probably also had times where you’ve talked to somebody and it’s just not happening – you think "who is this Martian?"  And you just can’t relate to this person at all, right?

Rapport is a skill, and it’s the ability to create that connection with a complete stranger anytime you want to.  And the nice thing about it is, it’s not some kind of fluffy philosophy or technique or willy-nilly idea, it actually genuinely is a series of things that you can do, and you can tell when it’s working cos you get direct signals – you get signs that come back that are quantifiable and instantly visible and feel-able, from the person you’re getting rapport with, or the people you’re getting rapport with.  It works just as well in groups as it does face to face with one individual.

Which tells you whether or not you’re getting on, which means you can tell if it’s working.  Now there’s an old quote that says everything in life you want is either owned by someone else or you’re going to need someone’s help to get it, so you’d better be good at building rapport.  It’s a fundamental skill.  Especially if you’re going to be doing therapy, coaching or consulting, because they’re only going to tell you their deepest, darkest fears if they know you, like you and trust you.

If you’re going to be using NLP & HGE™ for marketing and sales, then people will only do business with you cos they know you, like you and trust you.  If you’re going to be teaching or presenting, then you want your audience to know you, like you and trust you.  And quite frankly, as a teacher or trainer or educator, it’s much nicer to be standing in front of an audience who like you rather than an audience who don’t.  And you may know how that feels.

In essence, Rapport skills are one of the fundamental skills that we teach on a training course because we firmly believe that if you have rapport, it makes your life a hell of a lot more pleasant and easier.  Which is the bottom line with all this stuff – the bottom line with NLP & HGE™ is that it lets you get more of the results you want in life more often, in more easier ways…

OH and by the way, this is NOTHING to do with "make more eye contact" or "smile more".  Please!

As a trainer or speaker, if you're going to stand in front of a group of people, you better have rapport with them or they will tear you to shreds.  At the least it will be uncomfortable for everyone.  Awkward silences,  no engagement, jokes fall flat and the students can't wait for it to be over.  And trust me if you're in front of a group like that and you're not hitting it off, it feels horrible.  Trust me, I've been there!

As a Financial Adviser I used to have to do a fact-find, then go away and prepare a proposal, then come back and try and get the sale.  After I learned about Rapport, my appointments halved and my sales doubled.  When my manager asked me what I was doing, it led to my first proper paid training gig.

As a Master Hypnotherapist I had to be able to create a "sacred space" where my new client would feel safe and trusting enough to tell me their deepest, darkest fears and concerns. That's ESSENTIAL  in helping professional context.  Some people are just people people who click with anyone.  I had to learn how to do that.

When I did my Coaching training over 3 years back in 2001, they didn't cover Rapport anywhere!  If you're going to be that client's secret weapon and confidant, cajoling them, questioning them, holding them accoubnatble and walking with them as they reach their goals, YOU MUST HAVE RAPPORT.  many a coaching client is lost on the initial phone call or the first meeting because there's no rapport.

OK so have I hammered this point home yet?  No rapport, no coaching.  No rapport, no checky :-)

If you'd like to learn how do do this stuff, come and join me on Nov 10/11th - click here for details

For people who are serious about their personal growth...

Maybe you’ve tried all the goal setting, the achiever, “if it’s to be it’s up to me” syndrome.  You’ve had the house, the car, the money in the bank, the social circle, the good job……and yet there’s still something missing?

You see, goals without a higher purpose lack passion or deep meaning.  At some point you’ll ask yourself “Who I am?  Why am I here? What should I be doing with my life?”  Perhaps you have an inkling…..a hunch…that something more spiritual is the place to go next.

Maybe you, like me, have a “calling” – that something calls to you for some inexplicable reason.  There’s a great quote that once said “Religion is what people do to avoid going to hell.  Spirituality is what people do once they’ve been there!”

Now I’m not a psychiatrist or psychologist – but I have spent 25 years in personal development helping people transform their lives – I’ve learned and taught advanced techniques like NLP and Hypnosis.  But after a while I got frustrated with the lack of depth, there was something missing.  There had to be more….do you know what I mean?

For me it was always about making changes.  If you’re not happy with the results you’re creating, then change what you’re doing.  Whining and complaining won’t make it any better, and nobody’s going to come and rescue you.  The sooner you realise it’s you, the better.  It’s what you do that counts.  So initially I did private therapy, and then started doing workshops to try and share this mindset with as many people as possible.

Then in the late '90's I came across the blossoming field of Life Coaching, and saw a natural extension to what I was already doing.  NLP helped me to help my clients clear up the mental clutter and limitations that hold us all back.  Life Coaching looks at the external factors that make you who you are – your health and eating habits, your family relationships, your intimate relationships, your management of money, your environment, and your career.  Now I had ways of dramatically improving my own life, and the lives of others, on both the inside and the outside.

However, in a completely unregulated industry, people could simply read a book and call themselves a Life Coach.  Oh dear.

Then you start to hit your late thirties, and true to the model you’re about to learn, the idea of spirituality starts calling to you.  Now it takes different forms for different people, and for me it was in a concealed body of knowledge and wisdom that had been banned until 1989, until laws were passed that allowed the Hawaiians to teach their original ways again.  Something about Huna attracted me, and for the first time in my life I could relate to what people often term “a calling”.

Huna balances you out, and gets you down out of your head and into your body again, grounding you.  Instead of being “the NLP guy”, I started to teach other concepts and principles that I’d picked up that seemed to make sense, and more importantly, consistently worked with everyone I shared them with.

That was always my core drive, and still is.  To help people.  Now I’m not a complete altruist, because it’s my business and I expect to be paid.  But that was my passion – Maybe you’ve seen “Star Wars”, when Obi Wan Kenobi told the Imperial Storm troopers “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for” and they let them pass, instantly changing their minds.  “Wouldn’t it be really cool to be able to do that!” I thought.  Imagine someone comes to you with a problem like “I’m depressed”, and with a wave of your hand you tell them “No you’re not” and they wouldn’t be.  That would be magic!  Real magic.

And if you study every philosophy, every theology on the planet, certain key concepts keep coming up.  Rituals.  Physical exercise.  Energy.  Numbers.  The Five elements.  Taking responsibility.  Being at one with yourself.  Life being a mirror of you.  There has to be something to that if they keep showing up, throughout history, throughout the planet.  Mark Twain once said “The ancients steal all our best ideas”.

My friend and teacher Tad James had once suggested to Richard Bandler, the co-creator of NLP:

“What if all NLP is, is tying up the conscious mind with a technique, while you give suggestions to the unconscious mind?”

In Huna, the Kahuna would often create a ritual or task for the patient to undertake, and in so doing they gave their unconscious mind permission to make the change.  It’s almost like the conscious mind needs to be convinced by doing something tangible, while the unconscious mind does what it already knows it can do, but needs the conscious mind’s permission.  Think of the placebo effect in medicine.  Or being dunked in water to feel cleansed, or anointed.  The ritual works better if you use real water…

Milton Erickson, the world’s leading Hypnotherapist, often gave clients tasks or ordeals to do, and by doing then, they “fixed” themselves.  Hmmmm…..

I knew I was on to something.  It was also painful to watch people study, and teach, NLP as a bunch of techniques that claimed to be able to cure everything from nail biting to HIV, but then get disappointed when it didn’t work.  Or worse, blame the NLP practitioner when it didn’t.  There’s more to it than that.  You can’t expect someone to come along and “fix you”. You have to be the source of your own change.  Because then you get all the pride and achievement of having taken charge of you mind and your behaviours too!

It was a shame to watch people spend four days with (in my opinion) the world’s greatest presenter and teacher, Tony Robbins, get all psyched up to change the world, and then crash down to earth a week later.  Not only were they disappointed, they’d had a taste of how good they could feel and they couldn’t recreate it themselves.    They’d have to spend even more money becoming seminar junkies, just to recapture the high.  As one client of mine once said,

“How much more money do you have to spend before the penny drops?”

To make matters worse, the world of NLP was renowned for its competing developers who spent more time arguing about who the genuine leaders of the field were, than in advancing and improving the technology for the betterment of its enthusiasts.  Too much emphasis was placed on legal actions, copyrighting, jargon, cyber squatting and whose signature was on your certificate, which is ironic when one of the basic beliefs promoted by NLP is to “respect everyone’s model of the world.”  It was a world of politics, cliques and possessiveness where the self-styled governing bodies had practically no regulatory authority, and no way of enforcing their code of conduct.  Basically anyone could buy their way up the ladder and call themselves a Trainer, regardless of ability, flair, depth of knowledge or integrity.

Intriguingly, all of the most successful leaders in the field of NLP got into esoteric studies and spirituality.  Richard Bandler lived in Hawaii for years.  John Grinder used animal forms during training courses.  Tad James is my Huna teacher.  Tony Robbins calls himself a “force for God”.  The “heart” that was missing from the NLP model could be found in the ancient teachings of the earth.

And yet, having done thousands of hours on one to one therapy, working with hundreds of clients on the phone, by email, in person or in groups, over 25 years of personal experience in dealing with human beings and their fears, hang ups, hopes and desires, I’ve realised that the main and final reason these hard working, well-meaning individuals suffer set backs, self doubt and turmoil, is because they did not know what I know about how to tap into their “inner life manager” and finally realise that the answer is never “out there” – it’s not going to be handed to you in the next book, on the next tape or the next seminar.  It’s inside you right now, you either

  1. Don’t know that it resides inside you behind a locked door
  2. Don’t have a key!

My job was always to tentatively reveal some elements and core essentials of this approach to these people, and take them through some safe and gentle ‘training sessions’… ‘tentatively’ because I was unsure how easily they would accept the truth.

I was wrong to worry.

The results of these sessions (usually an hour at a time) are already evident and there’s pages and pages of testimonies on my websites and in my client files – they are happier, healthier, in better jobs, in more passionate relationships, making more money.  Personal success is suddenly realistic instead of a hyped up cosmetic “hope”.

But not for everybody.  I wouldn’t be telling the truth if I said every client I’ve ever worked with dramatically turned around.  That’s not the case.  Some put the phone down on me.  Some weren’t prepared to do the work.  Some wouldn’t spend a few hundred pounds to make their ill-health symptoms disappear.  Some walked out of my office and never came back.  Some made appointments but never showed.  That’s life.  People are people.

BUT, the ones who kept their appointments, invested some money in themselves and were willing to put the effort in, every one of them blossomed, flew and transformed in a matter of hours, weeks, months at most.

NLP had to evolve. Hypnosis alone wasn’t enough.  Life Coaching is more than just hiring a personal trainer.  Huna was too ancient and esoteric and turned some people off.  There needed to be a comprehensive and ecological model which was simple and straightforward to use in your daily life.  After all, it’s what you do consistently, and persistently that shapes your life.  You can’t have a bath once and be clean forever.  To that effect, I want to share what I’ve found with you, and I’ve called it HGE™

Join me on November 10/11th in Glasgow where I'll teach you more.  Way more...

Do The Law Of Attraction, The Secret & Self Help Actually Work?

Hi there,

 How you doing?

It's a blowy Saturday morning and I'm sitting outside the school where Luke's at his usual violin lesson. Every week he goes to class, gets instruction from an experience teacher who's good at what she does, and he learns and improves his skills and he's really coming on. Which is kind of what I want to talk to you about.

See I've been into personal development and self help for 25 years - I started with a wee correspondence course on confident psychology, then started reading positive mental attitude books before going onto audio tapes by Zig Ziglar, then NLP, Tony Robbins - all the usual gurus. I've studied and been certified with 3 different NLP training companies at practitioner, master practitioner and even nlp trainer. I went to Hawaii 5 times to study Huna and western high magic. I've used goal setting, law of attraction, time management, visualisation, you name it. And I've earned a good living as a master hypnotherapist and NLP trainer, running courses and working with over 2000 private clients.

But here's the thing - I've met loads of people who have read all the books, listened to all the CDs, they say they applied all the principles, and it hasn't made a blind bit of difference. They're still ill, or broke, or divorced, or scared, or phobics, and they say personal development is nonsense.

See if there are the 4 levels of life - the spiritual the mental the emotional and the physical, my theory is that everyone wants change in the physical world - money, lovers, houses, cars, things. Mental is nice, spiritual can be profound, emotional makes you feel better but my belief is that people want tangible 3d proof.

So I'd like to hear from you in particular - if you're a fan of personal development, if you're a seminar junkie like me, has it made a difference? Did it work? Did the law of attraction being you what you wanted? Did the money and wealth courses make you money? Were there real, tangible improvements in the world of physical? Or did it just give you a warm fuzzy feeling?

Leave your comments below and I'll reposed to the personally.

And if you haven't read my report called "If NLP and coaching are so hot where's my range rover?"  yet,the link is RIGHT HERE

Change Your Mindset, Change Your Life - Jonathan Clark NLP Scotland Based Courses

HELLO there.  You maybe know me, maybe you don’t yet.  My name’s Jonathan Clark and I’ve taught the majority of the active & successful NLP Practitioners in Scotland.

This is a private – by invitation only – offer to people who are serious about their personal growth.  If you are ready to grow and evolve yourself meaningfully, we invite you to come and spend 8 days with us…

I want to introduce you to a whole new mindset, a technology, a toolkit full of tools for every occasion, drawn from years of real world application and experience using state of the art psychology such as Neuro Linguistic programming and Hypnosis, as well as the secrets and advanced methodologies employed by Life Coaches and spiritual advisers alike.

Now I’m not a psychiatrist or psychologist – but I have spent 25 years in personal development helping people improve their lives – I’ve learned and taught advanced techniques like NLP, Huna and Hypnosis.

For me it was always about making changes.  If you’re not happy with the results you’re creating, then change what you’re doing.  Whining and complaining won’t make it any better, and nobody’s going to come and rescue you.  The sooner you realise it’s you, the better.  It’s what you do that counts.  So initially I did private therapy – now up to 5000 hours of one to one time with real people with real problems, , and then started doing workshops to try and share this mindset with as many people as possible.  So far I’ve run 30 courses like this coming one that are 8 days long, and several that are longer!

However, in a completely unregulated industry, people can simply read a book and call themselves a Life Coach or Guru.  Oh dear.

NLP had to evolve. Hypnosis alone wasn’t enough.  Life Coaching is more than just hiring a personal trainer.  Huna was too ancient and esoteric and turned some people off.  There needed to be a comprehensive model which was simple and straightforward to use in your daily life.  After all, it’s what you do consistently, and persistently that shapes your life.  You can’t have a bath once and be clean forever.  To that effect, I want to share what I’ve found with you

One of the first things we cover on my courses are what are called “The Presuppositions”.  Those are the things you have to presuppose – they’re suggested beliefs that are useful.  If you run them in your head you tend to find that life gets a lot easier, or you get better results, just by thinking this way.  They’re simply a suggested mindset or outlook, so if you run them in your head it will change the way you look at things.  Software for the mind.  Does that make sense?

So, for instance one of them is “There’s no such thing as failure, there’s only feedback”.  You know that everything that you do generates an outcome.  We don’t use the word “goal” very much - we use the word “outcome”.  Reason is you don’t always get your goal, but you always get an outcome.  May not be the outcome you want, but you still create an outcome.  Now, if you take that outcome as feedback then it’ll either be taking you towards what you want, or away from what you don’t want.  So imagine a plane wants to fly from Glasgow Prestwick to Stansted, yeah?  It knows its outcome and it takes off and it flies off in that direction.  Now if it checks its computer to find out where it is, and discovers it’s halfway over Iceland, then it’s generated an outcome!  Right?  Not the outcome it wanted but it is still an outcome.

Now, if you take that as feedback, it tells you what to do next.  It tells you where you need to go – you need to turn the plane around and go in the other direction!   Take that as feedback – it’s not failure.  You’ve actually learned something and generated an outcome.  Now, if you operate from that basis it makes life a hell of a lot easier, you don’t have to beat yourself up about “Oh I’m so bad at what I do”, you know, it’s “You generated an outcome” and take it that way.  That kind-of implies forgiveness.  It implies forgiveness for yourself, as well as for everyone else.  You know, other people don’t necessarily fail at things, they also generate outcomes and they can also take that as feedback.

Think about it, imagine if just that one principle became something you filtered your life through – you looked through those kinds of glasses from time to time.  That would probably make quite a difference in the way you think, the way you behave.  Now, there are over a dozen presuppositions, and this course really is not just a bunch of techniques, it’s an entire mindset, an attitude, a way of looking at things.  You know the difference between a Practitioner and someone who just “does positive thinking” is, a Practitioner treats these presuppositions as a Code of Conduct, at least that’s what I think.

Just imagine how life would be if you started to adopt just one of these dozen or more useful beliefs – we cover all of them, in detail, one at a time, and we help you to integrate and breathe life into them in your own mind.

This is your chance to come play with these methods – I say “play” because they are so simple, and so much fun to use, you might think you’re not making serious changes, and you’d be mistaken.  You see, that’s what makes it work.  If you’re enjoying using the techniques, then by definition you’re engaging the unconscious mind, and that’s the secret to making any change right there…

You can do in 8 days what most others take weeks to do, and you’re saving at least £500 compared to other providers.  We’ll coach you after the course, and invite you to come back and repeat at our cost.  And if you’re not entirely blown away by all of this, we’ll give you your money back.

If this has piqued your curiousity – give me a call or email me and we can have a chat first.

How To Choose An NLP Practitioner Course

Let me start by asking you a question - Have you ever been on the verge of making an important investment, and you’re gathering all the information you need so you can make the right decision?

Well, if you watched my last video, you’re thinking about getting into this thing called NLP, and you’re probably shopping around for the best package. There's so much to consider though, isn’t there?  “I wonder How long it takes? How much will it cost?  What qualification do I get at the end of it?,Is there any support offered after the course has finished & I’m back home?, is there any kind of money back guarantee, will it be a nice venue...?
Ahh!  So many questions running through your mind.  And I once felt the same confusion.  So let’s make this really easy for you shall we?

Training NLP Presentation Skills Unpacked By Jonathan Clark

A couple of weekends ago I was fortunate enough to present my "Stand & Deliver - Safely be Yourself In Front Of An Audience" training at Catterick Garrison in Yorkshire.

Now I decided to film the first 15 minutes to put myself to the test.

I wanted to see just how many of the 15 presentation skills that I teach on that training I was actually using myself - kind of proving it to myself, and to keep me on my toes.

Watching it back, it was fun to unpack the first 15 minutes blow-by-blow, and spot the different NLP training elements as I used them.

Hope you find this useful, and moderately amusing :-)

Jonathan

P.S. I've also given myself some feedback on how to make it even better next time...

Napoleon Hill Dying Penniless Is Not The Secret

How Much More Will You Spend Before The Penny Drops?

WARNING– watch this video only if you are open to quantum physics, metaphysics, the unconscious mind and complementary approaches.

How to tell if you are open-minded enough: if you have bought even one positive thinking book, listened to a meditation tape or attended at least a personal development workshop– and you’ve been sufficiently inspired enough to practice what you were shown (even if it only produced temporary changes in you) that that’s proof enough that you’re the kind of person that should watch this

Hi, my name is Jonathan Clark and I’m the Founder of HGE and author of the book “Ignite & Unshackle The Latent Power of You”.  I made this video for you because I want to pull back the curtain, and expose some of the myths around mind tools like Law of attraction  and Hypnosis, as well as “the secret” and advanced methodologies employed by Life Coaches and spiritual advisers alike.  And you might not like what I’m about to tell you…

Presentation Skills Public Speaking Coach Jonathan Clark Shares Best Practices For Training

Feel free to leave comments and questions [about speaking] at the bottom of the page...

Hope you’re enjoying your week!  I certainly am.  On Sunday we finished our 30th NLP Practitioner Certification Course after 4 months of breakthroughs and laughs.

It’s amazing what you’re asked to do when people know you’re happy speaking to groups.

I’ve been asked to speak at weddings, graduations, rallies, grand openings, conferences, retreats, exhibitions – the list goes on.
I’ve also been thrilled to share the stage with celebrities like Anna Rider Richardson and Caroline Munro.

Organisations like Barclays, Morgan Stanley and Ford Motor Company have all asked me to train their employees.  How’d it all begin?  How can YOU become a skilled, in-demand and HIGHLY PAID public speaker?

This is the second video in the series.  Access the first video here.

Watch the video - Some very cool speaking lessons there.

Enjoy the training and the rest of your day

Jonathan

P.S. This week I’ve opened registration to “Stand & Deliver – Safely Be Yourself In Front Of An Audience”.  You can book it HERE  http://jonathanclark.org/events/

Presentation Skills & Public Speaking Myths

Please leave your comments or ask questions below and I'll answer them personally...

What’s the best way to help people, share your message and grow your business?

My most effective way, while it sounds basic, is through SPEAKING.

Through public speaking [on stage and on video], you reach hundreds, if not thousands.

And you can earn a SERIOUS income doing it.  But only if you don’t buy into the myths around the speaking world…

Here’s a complimentary video training on the stupid myths in the industry, and how instead to become a highly-paid public speaker:

DISCLAIMER: This will be a controversial training because I really expose the problems with the speaking industry, but I know you’ll enjoy it.

I started from scratch [terrified] and within my first month made life-changing money and shared the stage with several Scottish celebrities, to name a few.  This was only possible because I deliberately pushed myself to grow, and forced myself to step into the lion’s den.  If you've ever wanted to command a room, then this is a must see.

Jonathan

P.S. Last week on social media I asked what questions people had about public speaking, and I answer most of them in this video.  Be sure to post any questions in the comments section below the video and I’ll personally respond.

Photoreading In Glasgow, Scotland with Jonathan Clark

Just suppose you could learn any subject in human endeavour.  Anything.  What would you immerse yourself in?  What would you love to learn about?  Then imagine that in an evening you could Photoread 5 books on that topic, in an hour and a half you could activate those books so tomorrow you could go into a meeting and be ready to talk all about that subject.

You see, each of your eyes can process about 10 million bits of information per second, and it works like a camera taking in the whole scene, it doesn’t work like a spotlight scanning left to right the way you were taught at school.  So the way we were taught to read is antiquated and not very efficient.

But here’s the twist - Out of the 10 million bits of information per second that your eyes actually see, you only get about 40 bits of information in your conscious mind, that you’re aware of.  Here’s a scenario that almost everyone has experienced in their life – someone asks you to fetch them the salt, it’s on the 3rd shelf down in the cupboard, and you’re looking and you can’t see it to save yourself.  There’s just no salt in the cupboard.  Then they walk right up to it, grab the salt, hold it in front of your eyes and say “What do you call this?”  Now did your eyes see the salt?  YES!  But did your conscious mind notice?  NO!  And being put under pressure makes your mind even more blind to what your eyes can actually see.

There is so much more going on out with your conscious ability to notice it, it’s astounding!  But what if there was a way to tap into the other-than-conscious portion of your experience.  What if you could take in more, learn more, experience more…

So what the Photoreading whole mind system has done is that is created a step by step process that anyone can learn – despite your previous feelings about school, learning or reading -  that lets anyone tap into the sheer power of your unconscious mind

Maybe the way we’re supposed to learn is the way the accelerated learning experts tell us, if you want to absorb a subject, just immerse yourself in it.  Don’t try to break it down, dipping your toe in the water - just dive wholeheartedly right in.

Picture yourself just absorbing all of it all at once.  And as you do that your unconscious mind integrates it into your existing databank – making the knowledge of the book merge into the rest of your knowledge at 10 million bits of information per second.  So what comes out is your version of the book.

Are you beginning to grasp the possibilities?  For your career?  For investment?  Your health.  Your personal development.  What area of knowledge would you like to delve into?  We can apply this to every area of your life, if we’re ready to step up boldly to the challenge.

Think about it.  Why do we go into a book in the first place?  What’s the purpose?  It’s just bits of paper with some information on it, isn’t it?  What if it was the ultimate personal development tool – adding skills and knowledge directly into your mind.  Remember Joe 90?  Activating who you are – your power and potential

We’re living in the dark ages when it comes to using our minds efficiently.  But we can unshackle ourselves from what traditional society calls learning, and what the education system considers comprehension.

The Photoreading whole mind system has evolved over the years, to combine accelerated learning secrets from behind the iron curtain, to self-hypnosis, to mindfulness training – all combined into an easy paint by numbers system that lets you consume and recall any reading material – books, reports, regulations, anything.

The implications of this process are unlimited in terms of the effect it can have on your ability to learn, and the results in your life.  Did you struggle at school?  Doesn’t matter.  Did you learn to dislike studying before now?  That can all change overnight.

After you’ve explored one subject, you’ll want to keep opening up, and you can do that by boldly accepting the challenge.

But this same power is available in lots of other areas of your life.  Need to learn how to get better with money?  Need to keep up with work materials?  Got exams coming up?  Imagine having loads of free time, and knowing your subject – while your peers are all hitting the books and clocking up hours of boring, repetitive studying like you used to.

I don’t know of any other commercially available system that taps into this power and promises so much.  It’s fun, its fast, and its easy.  Anyone can learn how to do it.

BUT the only way that you can get these kind of experiences, is to learn how to do it.  Are you up for a challenge?

Do you struggle with reading and learning? Maybe this is why...

More has been learned about the human brain in the last 15 years than at any other time in history.  And what we have learned could revolutionize the education system – but not yet!

However, let’s talk a little more about YOUR brain so you can tap into your real learning power and be one of the few who has.

The brain is an incredibly complex, and capable piece of equipment - but it comes without an owner’s manual.  Rarely are we told how it works and how to get the most out of it.  So I’d like to do that now.

The first surprise is that the brain is really split into 3 chunks.  Maybe you’ve noticed my logo.

OK so we’ve got 2 components to the brain.  At the base of the skill you have this chunk.  This is the reptilian part of the brain, the oldest prehistoric area.  Keeps you breathing and your heart beating.  When this part of the brain is under stress, what do you think it does?  That's right - it retreats and withdraws in fear.

Now when a reptile is super happy, what does it do?   It basks!  So the reptile brain is in charge of the physical body, especially fight or flight and physical safety.  It’s also territorial, so it monitors your safety zone of proximity and gets jumpy when people get in too close – know what I mean?  Now if you don't feel physically safe, how well do you learn?  Exactly - so we need a happy, basking reptilian brain in order to learn. Yes?

Now the next part of the brain you need to learn about, is the mammalian part of the brain. This is the part that handled hormones, immune system and long term memory.  Also the emotions – which explains why emotions and memory are so closely linked.  You remember the memories that have emotions in them.   Like the first time you did anything.  Your first kiss for example.

Now what does the mammal do if it's unhappy?  It growls and bares its teeth and claws.

Now the mammalian part of the brain is said to be in charge or the emotional body and emotional safety.  When it's happy, it's very much connected to the physical body.  And what sound does a happy mammal make?  A contented purr...

So the ideal learning state is to have a happy reptile and a happy mammal, which looks like?  Now every human being has a reptilian part, and a mammalian part, so in order to learn well you have to create physical safety, and emotional calmness.  I love this phrase:

Know relaxation, know learning

If you want to be a good student, and you are good students - are you not, then you need to be safe and calm.  Also if you want to teach well, you need the same state

Now there's another chunk of the brain that you probably know, where the brain is split into 2 hemispheres - the left side and the right side
LHS – speech, logic, numbers
RHS - Melody, patterns, intuition
To be honest this model is a little bit out of date, but it still is a useful way to think about it, ok?  So this represents the right hemisphere of the brain – stand on the right – and this thinking cap represents the left hemisphere.   What we have is a well-connected brain.  The most creative people have a beautiful communication between BOTH hemispheres of the brain.  Not just right brain.  Extremely analytic and extremely creative at the same time.

So if we have a happy reptile, and a happy mammal, then the L and R hemispheres will talk to each other.  If I have an unhappy reptile and an unhappy mammal, then these 2 don’t talk to each other – they sort of turn away.

If you’re right brain dominant, you tend to attack inwardly and at self – fume and stew and huff.  Feel bad, pout, cry, and behaviours that bring them down.  If you’re left brain dominant they will attack outwardly at other people – anger, rage, shouting and hitting.  Show up late and on purpose.  So if you see these behaviours then you know what’s going on.

So what do we need to do?  Get them physically safe, emotionally safe

Then there’s the third and final chunk.  The 100 billion brain cells that make up the capacity of the brain.  Let’s put that in perspective – as you grew in the womb, as a 12 week old embryo you were developing 2000 brain cells a second!  An adult bee, by comparison, has 7000 brain cells TOTAL.

Now let’s introduce the conscious mind
And here we have the unconscious mind
Now, I want you to know that you have access to all the resources of the brain.  And un-conscious isn’t really an accurate name.  There’s no part that’s UN conscious.  You may have learned to not direct your attention to the uncon mind - You’d be too powerful!  So the western world teaches you consciously – verbal. 2% of the brain size.  The database of the conscious is outnumbered 10 billion to one.

Now all learning, all change and all behaviour is Unconscious.  As an educator, which part of them should I be teaching?  Who’s really in charge?  The UN conscious is 10 billion times bigger than the conscious mind.  Do I really care about the conscious mind?  A little bit, not all that much

How do you get messages from your unconscious mind?
Emotions
Intuitions.
Hunches
Physical sensations
Dreams
And when do we tend to get those signals usually?  When we’re relaxed, trance – drifting off to sleep, just after we’ve woken up.  When we do meditation, or visualisation – we’re connecting directly to the other than conscious mind.

So meanwhile we have a happy reptile brain – bask for me.  Bask!
We have the happy mammal – purring.  Purr for me.
We’ve got the communicating left and right hemisphere…
And as you can see… my mind is wandering

So to put all 3 chunks together – information coming in goes to the 2 hemispheres.  It acts like the switchboard, rerouting the information to the thinking brain.  But if you’re under stress, the reptilian brain shuts the switchboard down, and that’s when your mind gores blank.

Very often people, who have had a poor learning experience, feel unconsciously threatened by the thought of upcoming learning experiences in the future. It’s a vicious circle.  Because they feel they’re crap at learning, they feel stressed.  And that stress shuts off their ability to learn, and it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.  The secret is to get into a calm, positive state BEFORE you start learning, And then you can learn anything… as nature intended!

NLP Practitioner Course Contest Winners Announced

Hi there, its Jonathan here, and I’m at the world headquarters of my company – that’s my home office actually J

Now the reason for this much awaited video, is to announce the contest results for the competition that I’ve been running for the last 7 days.

All the names have gone into a hat for the NLP + HGE Practitioner competition.  If you remember the prizes are as follows:

FIRST PRIZE is a chance to win a seat on my flagship course - saving yourself £2137 - as my guest.

But then I made it even juicier by having a second and third prize

The second prize is the whole course on audio cd, so you can learn NLP at your own pace and refer back to it forever.

The third prize is a copy of my new book Lose Weight For Scotland - a complete 90 day programme combining expert tips, sneaky professional inside secrets, and self hypnosis to get you into great shape, if you're not already.

I’m going to pick out the 3 winners, but here’s the good news - I’ve changed my mind… about the prizes… but more on that later.  Let’s see if you’ve won first...

If you liked and commented on social media to help me spread the word, then your name is in here.  The plan was to offer ONE person a free place on the course.  That’s a £2137 course – for nothing.

But you left so many nice comments – All you had to do to enter was answer 2 quick questions - Why do you want to learn NLP?  What you would use it for - what area of your life would you want to improve?

55 lovely people left comments, Here’s some examples of what was said

I want to learn NLP for my own personal development. I would use it to become the best version of me possible and then in turn help others achieve a more rewarding and happy life.

I would relish the opportunity to discover a new deeper level to my being, to help me understand my own personal journey and potential growth that I can then share with others, for optimum reward for themselves and those around them.

So that I gain more self confidence which is necessary to be taken more seriously and to feel more comfortable preaching what I practice.

So I don’t know who’s going to win, but what I’ve done is take all the 55 names of commenters, and put them on little bits of paper, and I’m going to pull them out of my Wizard’s Hat

Now I need to mix these up real good cos someone is going to win a £2137 personal development course… The tension is building…

OK here’s prize draw winner number 1 -Lisa Warren
Winner #2 Garry Conway
And winner #3 Elizabeth McLeary

So well done – thanks for your help in spreading my message, and you’re about to be really glad you did – cos here’s the deal… Remember I said I’d changed my mind?

I have.  Here’s what my gut tells me to do – my intuition is telling me to give ALL 3 of you a free place on my course.  So that’s what I’m going to do… IF you get back to me before Saturday.

OK here’s what you have to do – private message me within the next 72 hours and I’ll give you all the details.  But if you don’t come forward, you miss the slot.

Thanks for entering the contest, and if you didn’t win, make sure you take part in anything I make available in the future.

Congratulations, and I’ll be seeing you in 3 short days time on our next NLP + HGE Practitioner Course.
