Last week, during a coaching call with one of my clients, something hit me like a ton of bricks.

They were stuck in the same loop I see so many people fall into—spending hours agonising over perfecting their PowerPoint slides, tweaking the tiniest design details, searching for the perfect image, and rewriting handouts for the hundredth time.

They had the passion, the drive, and even the knowledge to create something amazing, but the results weren’t showing up.

I told them: “Stop trying to make it perfect. Instead, focus on getting it done.”

It’s counterintuitive, but here’s why it’s critical.

When you focus on finishing instead of perfecting, you free up time, energy, and creativity to actually deliver your message. Perfectionism might feel productive, but it’s a trap that keeps you spinning your wheels.

For example, one of my other clients took this advice and within a week:

How to get more members on your livestreams

 

I spoke to a contact that has a rather large Facebook community. It gained traction really quickly and grew to thousands of members.

But people were only staying for about 4 months then quitting. In the last 3 months that dropout rate has halved – in other words the retention rate has gone up. Members are staying.

So I asked her “How much time do you spend inside the community with paying members?”

Maybe 15% of her week she said.

“And how much time do you spend on getting new members to join the community?”

Oh about 85% of her week.

And that’s an issue with communities of members on Skool or Facebook. The focus is on filling it with new people, not taking care of the paying members in the community. The activities to GET new members are different from the activities to KEEP paying members.

That’s one benefit of running a weekly livestream or teaching session in your community, and you can add an upsell every week.

Why people still run boring virtual meetings?

 

Unbelievably, I think a lot of people haven’t learned from Covid and lockdown…

It’s been three and a half years for god’s sake and I’m still seeing boring presentations, death by PowerPoint, having to stare up people’s nostrils and they still can’t get the technology right

They still believe things like:

• "It has to be perfect before I can share it."
• "I’m not tech-savvy enough to create professional presentations."
• "I need to include everything I know to provide value."

And if you approach online meetings that way, those beliefs might feel true.

Why?

Because thinking like that almost always:

• Delays progress, increases stress, and often results in missed opportunities to connect with your audience.
